The Merchants House is located in the centre of Bath in an area known as Walcot. The house is a 5 minute walk from the main shopping street and a 10-15 minute walk from Bath Spa train station.
Walcot is well know as the bohemian part of Bath and encompasses a number of streets between Bath Abbey and London Road. Walcot Street is the main street in this area and has an eclectic mix of shops, restaurants, pubs and clubs.
Independent boutiques offer hats, fine cheese, retro clothing, old books, bikes, antiques, food, lighting and much more. Bath Aqua glass offers a chance to see traditional glass production in action and purchase products from their small shop. View some of Bath’s Architectural salvage at the Walcot Yard or peruse retro clothing at the Yellow Store.
Local Pubs include the Bell Inn on Walcot Street which has live music and is owned by a cooperative of customers, fans and workers. The Curfew is around the corner at Cleveland Place and the Star Inn on the Paragon is billed as the oldest pub in Bath.
Restaurants nearby include The Hudson Bar which specialise in American style steaks, The Thai Basil restaurant for Thai food, Aqua Italia for Italian food and Wagamama for Japanese food.
There are a number of takeaway restaurants within walking distance of the Merchants House including the New Chung Chinese takeaway, the Mogul Indian takeaway, Schwaz Bros or Dominos Pizza.
From the Merchants house London road leads east out of town following the direction of the River Avon. Along London Road are a variety of businesses including a Morrison’s Supermarket, a 24hr Esso service station and a Kwick Fit store.
From the Merchants House Walcot Street and the Paragon lead west into the centre of town. Within 5 minutes you have access to the main shopping street and all of Bath’s central attractions.
